Lady Lions Help Out Lady
Indians
St. Helens 1, Banks 0
The St. Helens Lions and Banks Braves
met Monday night, May 10, at the St. Helens field to make up the double
header rained out last Thursday. Banks came into the game tied with Scappoose
for first place. St. Helens has been fighting to stay alive in the race
for the league championships. St. Helens pitcher Courtney Bushaw was on
top of her game and threw a 4 hitter at the Braves, but Banks pitcher Emily
Hendrick was nearly her equal as she held the Lady Lions to just 5 hits
through 7 innings. Neither team could score in regulation, but Banks did
advance Fishback to third base on a triple with one out in the 4th inning.
Banks hitters no. 4 & 5 were
both out on infield flies and St. Helens survived the inning. In the top
of the 8th Bayless and Olson hit back to back singles with two outs. Banks
batter Fishback popped up to the St. Helens lst baseman to keep the Lions'
hopes alive. In the bottom of the 8th, Christy Friend led off with a stand-up
triple and after Banks intentionally walked Tyra Eaton and Misty Wells,
Erica Dewitt singled home the winning run for the Lions. The 1-0 victory
by St. Helens leaves Scappoose alone in first place in COWAPA League softball.
The second game score is unknown
as of this writing.
