Huffman & OHanlon
Mr. Huffman served as Deputy District Attorney for Columbia County, St. Helens, Oregon, from 1976-1980. He was a partner in the St. Helens law firm of Lucas, Petersen and Huffman from 1980 to 1983. In 1983 Jim moved to his present law offices in Old Town St. Helens, where he became a partner with Harold Olsen. In mid 2000, Mr. Huffman formed a new partnership with attorney Mary T. OHanlon. The new firm is located in uptown St. Helens, on Columbia Boulevard and 19th Avenue. Family: The Huffmans settled in Mayger, Oregon (North Columbia County) in the late 1800s. Mr. Huffmans grandfather James E. Huffman was a logger in Vernonia. His wife Marilyns family settled in St. Helens in the 1920s, and numerous relatives on both sides still live in the area. Jim and Marilyn Huffman moved to Scappoose, Oregon, from Portland in 1976. In 1988 Mrs. Huffman began employment as a 6th grade teacher in the Scappoose School District. The Huffmans have three children, all born and raised in Columbia County: Erik, a senior at Oregon State University; Brian, a senior at Willamette University; and Lisa, a sophomore at the University of Portland. Organizations and Interests: James Huffman is a member of the Oregon and Columbia County Bar Associations, Oregon Trial Lawyers Association, Columbia Chapter of International Rotary, the ACLU, the BPOE, and Moose Lodge. He is past Chairman of the Scappoose Parks and Recreation District, past Board Member of Columbia Community Television, and a Charter Member and past Board Member of Columbia County Legal Aid, with literally thousands of volunteer hours of legal work donated to the underprivileged. Mr. Huffman is a long-time fan of the Portland Trailblazers, Seattle Seahawks, and Portland State Vikings. He is a vintage Chevrolet automobile fan and collector, and owns a restored 1968 Chevy Impala convertible and other cars in the works. He is also an avid volunteer cameraman and technician for CCTV, with many hours of volunteer videotaping experience and promotions of local school and athletic events. Community Service: Jim Huffman has had a long history of community service, including Christmas bell-ringing and regular contributions to the St. Helens Toy and Joy Auction. He has also served as past Chairman of the Columbia Chapter of the International Rotary Youth Foreign Exchange Program for Scappoose/St. Helens. In December, 2000, Mr. Huffman completed four years of service on the Scappoose City Council. Legal and Personal Expertise: Jim Huffman has twenty-five years of legal experience as an attorney and negotiator, and has successfully tried hundreds of cases in court, both as a prosecutor and as a defense attorney. In addition, his twenty years of partnership in local law firms has created a broad range of small business management knowledge as well as financial and organizational experience. Mr. Huffmans long and varied history of legal and community service has resulted in extensive contacts with people in all walks of life and from many interest groups throughout South Columbia County. He has a record of exemplary service and a history of caring about and willingness to fight for the rights of the ordinary people of Oregon.
