Talent Show
by Melody

The talent show tryouts have already happened and a lot of people tried out. Although every one couldn't make it, I believe it will be a success. Talent show dates are May 5th and 6th.

The talent show director is one of our 6th grade teachers, Mrs. Olson. In past years Mrs. Hora was the director, but she recently retired.

During rehearsals students can bring a snack. You must behave during rehearsal or you could be kicked out!

Come by and see all the Petersen Talent.

Camp Collins
by Kate

On June 2nd the sixth grade at Otto H.H. Petersen School will be going to Camp Collins. Camp Collins is an outdoor school. The sixth grade will return on June 4th. The camp costed 8,000 dollars for our sixth grade to go. The sixth grade raised 4,000 dollars of the money in the Humanitees fudraiser last fall. The other 4,000 dollars came from a one-time grant from the YMCA. If the fifth graders want to go to camp next year they will have to raise all of the money by themselves. While we are at camp the sixth grade will have the DARE graduation. We will be staying in cabins while we are there. Camp Collins is by the Sandy River. They have a swimming pool there, but it will probably be closed when we are there. We will have a lot of fun there.

Spring Update
by Grant

This month we are doing soccer intermurals. We placed fourth in the ranking. We were all kind of disappointed. The girls scored third in the ranking. The next intermural is baseball. Instead of playing inside the gym, we get to play outside on the baseball field.

We are also going to do a talent show which I will not be in because I didn't get my form filled out in time. I think the talent show will be a big success because of the many talents we have at our school.

Well, that is my update report. Have a nice day.

Soccer
by Dean

Mrs. Huffman's boys played in our School intermurals. In the playoff we lost so we didn't go to the championship, but we had one more game to play to get 3rd spot. We lost 1-2 to Mrs. Williamson's team. On their team Duke scored their two points, and on Mrs. Huffman's team the only one to score was Dean.

Another Intermural?
by Krista

Otto H. H. Petersen School's 6th grade classes might have another intermural, and we think if there is another intermural it will probably be softball.

There are a few conflicts such as, where will we play? Scappoose Middle School uses the field sometimes so we would have to get a schedule. Another conflict would be if we don't get that field and we just find somewhere to play, what sort of ball will we use? So we aren't sure what is going on quite yet. I hope we will find out soon so we can start playing games.

Camp
by Kendall

All of the 6th grade will be going to a YMCA Outdoor School June 2. It's called Camp Collins and we are staying there June 2nd, till June 4. This is the first time in 15 years this has happened. Since the 6th grade earned so much money during the Humanities Fundraiser, plus the YMCA giving the school a grant we get to go this year. While we're there we'll have the award assemblies and the DARE Graduation. I think we are all going to have a lot of fun.

Talent Show
by Kathy

Here at Petersen there is going to be a talent show. Lots of people have tried out. There is going to be instruments, people singing, and lots more. I think it's going to be fun especially for the people who are in the talent show.

Some people didn't get to be in the talent show even though they tried out. All that matters is that you tried your best but you just weren't able to do it.

Camp
by Kyle

Petersen 6th grade is going to camp Collins YMCA June 2,3,4 for 2 nights and 3 days. We earned enough money by selling Humanities. Humanities are cothes such as shirts, and necklaces, wrapping paper, and many more gifts. We sold 10,000 dollers in humanities and after we bought everything we had 4,000 dollers left so we decided to go to a camp as outdoor school. So with that 4,000 dollers and a loan from the camp we all are lucky to go.

Softball Girls and Boys
by Kayla

Petersen School sixth graders might start softball. It would be class vs. class so it would be girls and boys mixed. They have some problems though because not everyone has a mit. They would not be able to use a real softball. They also don't know where we'll play. They think we might play outside on the field, but it's being used. They're also worried about that if we do play outside it might rain so some of our games could get rained out. If that happens we could get to far behind and we might not be able to finish.

Vandalism Poster Contest
by Tryn

In Petersen School there has been a Vandalism Poster Contest. The student counselor made up this idea because there was a lot of vandalism going on in our school. So we thought we should do something to persuade other children to not vandalize. The posters were drawn by students, laminated, and then voted on within the classroom. The first place poster in each class goes to the gym. Which then is voted on by the whole school. The first place winner then gets a $20 gift certificate at Fred Meyer. Second gets $10 and third gets $5. That is one of the extra things we do at Petersen.

Softball
by Rachel

Petersen School sixth graders have been doing intermurals. They have done volleyball, basketball, and soccer. Now it is time for softball. In the past intermurals each class had two teams: a girls and boys. But in softball each class will have one team. Boys and girls will be combined. There might be some conflicts like when we can and can't use the softball field at the Scappoose Middle School.

Reports
by Brittany

Mrs. Huffman's class is doing a report on countries in centeral America, South America or Bahamas. We chose these on April 2. We need to get a lot done and we think it will be fun. These reports are forcing us to be artistic, to think, and to remember. We need to draw our own cover and remember a lot. When they are done I'm sure you'll see them.
