November News A-6
Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 1998
by Dean

We met five veterans today. They told us about what a veteran is and about their stories of World War II. Two of the men were in the Navy and three in the Army.
One of the veteran Navy men told about the ship he was on called the Colorado. They wore their uniforms and told us a little history of the war.
One of the men was from Minnesota, which is my favorite state. He said he was drafted to the Navy when he was 19 years old in 1942.
They showed us old money, maps and flags, and other things from World War II.
Football
by Kyle
Football is a fun sport. You get to takle, run and catch the ball.
It is $90 to sign up. My football team made it to state. We played Clackamas. We lost. The referees wouldn't call any penalties. We lost 19 to 7.
So we took second. It doesn't hurt to get tackled because you're wearing pads.
Electra and Pot of Gold
by Krista
The first day of school our teacher Mrs.Huffman two plays we would be doing later in the
year. The two plays are Electra a Greek tragedy and the other is Pot of Gold a Roman
comedy. So far the class has been doing a good job memorizing their parts. Our parts
have to be memorized by a certain day in
December. We will be
doing these plays for the whole school if we have our parts memorized by then.
Volleyball Tournaments
by Tryn
At Petersen School if you're in the 6th grade you will have a volleyball tournament. I personally think that it's really fun, but some people don't play.
There are six girls teams and six boys teams. There is one boys team from each class and one girls team from each class. Boys play boys and girls play girls. Each team plays each other and then there is a championship. Everyone goes to the championship even if they lost all of their games (so everyone is happy).
When the season is over for this year come back for scores and updates. BYE!
See my follow-up in the December Newsletter.

Our Class Plays by Kathy |
The plays we are doing are very fun. Electra the Greek tragedy is very sad but Pot of
Gold is very funny but both of them are good. All the actors are doing very well although
it is hard to memorize your parts and remember when you come out to talk or do
something on stage. Working with other people is very fun you get to read your parts
together and learn their parts so you know when to talk. If someone messes up most of the
time it is funny but sometimes it is not. When we're doing a play and someone messes up
everyone tries to help them.
We Remember Veteran's Day
by Brittany
Our class went to the library and we saw veterans. Veterans are very interesting. They all had cool shories about their experiences in the Navy, Army, Air Force, and more. They were all sacrificing their lives for our freedom. They were not all as lucky. Some of the soldiers became caualites. They are people who died in the war.
November 11 is Veterans Day where we honor all the people who sacrificed their lives for
our freedom! So remember these wonderful people.
Pot of Gold
by Matt

In A-6 we're doing a play called Pot of Gold. It is about a man with a pot of gold. It stars
Euclio, played by Ace and Daniel, and Euclio's neighbor, Megadorus, played by Matt. It
also stars Megadorus's nephew Lyconides, played by Paul.
Scappoose Little League Football
by Jason

We are the second team in the whole Scappoose Little League to go to the playoffs in a
long time. We lost 20 to 6 but they were cheap shots because we had lots of clips from the
other team. That's all I remember.
Electra
by Melody
Our class is doing a play called Electra. It is about a girl who's mother killed her father. The girl's name is Electra. She has a sister named Chrysotheimis. She has a brother named Orestes. Her mother's name is Clyemnestra. Her real fathers name is Agamemnon. Aegisthus is the name of her step father. There is also Pylades, Orestes best friend.

Fall Football
by Paul
We played a bunch of teams and made it to the playoffs, but we lost so we're finished
now. We won our first game against Lakeridge 18 to 12. My team is Scappoose Indians.
We almost won all the games, but lost 2 so we still made it to the last game.
