Dear Mrs. Huffman,
Hi, my name is Lorna. I've got long blond hair. I either wear a jean jacket with cartoons on the back, or a big, blue, fluffy jacket. I sit in the group closest to the bean plants. I sit farthest from the bean plants in this group.
I've had a great adventure in Madras. I was in Madras for a week. On that Friday we were going fishing in a boat. I had got a new fishing pole. When we got there we found out that they didn't have an extra life jacket, and I also needed a licence to go fishing. So I almost didn't get to go fishing with them, but my dad took me to a place where they sold a life jacket and a license, so I got to go.
We stopped every few minutes down the river to fish. I caught one but it got away. After a while I got to row the boat. My friend John said I was great at it. When we got towards the end it started to sprinkle, but it stopped.
Next we heard thunder on the other side of the mountains. The wind started to blow us the way we were going. Then it started to hail. (The hail was to our backs.) John then turned the boat around so the hail was hitting us. My other friend Jeff had loaned me his coat. When we got to the end of the trip, about five minutes on land, the hail had let up.
I had dry clothes so I changed. Then we started to head back by car. That day I'll never forget!
Sincerely,
Lorna
Winter, 1999- My Pet
I have a cat named Katie. I call her Katie Kittie. Katie has gray hair and yellow eyes. She is very playful and snicky. I have only had her for one year, and about 3 or 4 months.
In November I went to the candle stick across Fredmyer. Kylie, by cousin, was giving Katie away for free. My mom said we could have her if no one wanted her before the store closed. Nobody took her, so I got to keep her.
I took Katie home and my mom said I could have an indoor cat. So I made Sam's dog kennel Katie's house. The kennel was inside are house. In a few days I called her Katie.
After winter passed the fleas got really bad so I had to put Katie outside. In the summer she was happy to be outside. When winter came Katie didn't like it at all. So she tried to get back into the house. I had to keep catching Katie and putting her back outside.
On one stormy day my mom let me bring Katie Kittie inside. She got to stay in till it started to get dark out. Katie liked it, so now she gets in more often than before. I still have to catch Katie and put her outside.
Even now Katie still gets in, and I have to catch her. Katie is not hard to catch, but she gets in a lot. That's the story of Katie Kittie and what she does part of the day, but I still love her.
The End

Camp Collins
Spring, 1999
This year the sixth grade gets to go to a camp. The camp is called Camp Collins. We will leave on Wednesday and stay there till Friday. So we will stay the night there. We won't be sleeping outside. We will be sleeping in cabins that will only hold 12 kids and 2 parents. We can't take CD players, am fm radios, TV's, cassette players, food, candy, or anything electronic or any other types of food. We will leave on Wednesday the 2 of June. We will leave at 8:30 or 8:45 am and we won't get there till about 10:00 am.
At the camp we will get to hike, explore, play games, obstacle courses, eat, and sleep there. The first lunch we have there will be a sack lunch from home. The rest will be made by the camp's cooks. At night we will have a camp fire and we will have to sing. Lights out is at 10:00 p.m. and we have to get up at 7:00. On Thursday we will have are DARE graduation. We will get are shirts there and other things. On Friday we will come back to school. We will be back to school about 4:00 PM. Our parents will have to come pick us up or a friend will have to. The reason why is because there will be NO bus service. So no bus service, no way home. I hope we will have fun there and enjoy ourselves.
