Problem: 100 pounds of chocolate is packaged into boxes each containing 1 1/4 pounds of chocolate. Each box is then sold for $1.75. What is the total selling price for all of the boxes of chocolate?

Kayla's response:
What I need to do to solve this problem: I need to divide 100 by 1 1/4 and find out how many times 1 1/4 can go into 100 because then I will know how many boxes there will be. Then I need to take the answer from 100 / 1 1/4 and multiply it by $1.75 because then I will know, with the answer, how much all of the boxes will cost together.

How I solved this problem: 100 divided by 1 1/4 =
1 1/4 = 5/4

100/1 x 4/5 = 400/5 = 80. There are 80 boxes.

1.75 x 80 = $140.00. [Work is shown] $140.00 for all of the boxes of chocolate.
80 boxes = $140.00 total.

Answer: $140.00

How I Checked my work: $140 divided by 80 = $1.75 [Long division is shown.]
$1.75 for each box.
