Dear Mrs. Huffman,
My name is Kate. I am a girl in your class. I have brown hair and brown eyes. I am about 5'4" tall. I sit close to your desk, by the wall. I have braces too. One last thing, I am twelve years old. I'll tell you a story about myself.
When I was about six years old. My older sister was babysitting one day at our house. My sister decided to take the two girls she was babysitting along with my brother and me down the road to get the mail. My sister and the two girls went ahead of my brother and me to get the mail.
My brother and I decided to ride our bicycles down the road instread of walking. My brother took off ahead of me down the road on his bike. I didn't go fast because I was afraid of going too fast. I didn't want to loose control of my bike and take a fall on the gravel road. My brother was already down the road and around the corner near the end of the road. I was riding my bike to meet them when I put on by brakes too fast. I went over the handle bars of my bike and landed face first on the gravel.
My brother heard me screaming and came as fast as he could on his bike. My brother got off his bike and helped me up. I grabbed a hold of my bike to bring it up the road and my brother told me to leave my bike and he would come back and get it later. We walked up the road. I had cuts all over my body.
When we got home my mom took card of my cuts and my brother brought both his and my bike home. My brother cleaned my bike for me. I had some cuts on my face, but all of my cuts healed and I was fine.
Sincerely,
Kate
My Favorite Dog
Winter, 1999
I had a dog named Penny. Penny was a golden retriever. Penny was alive before I was even born. Penny was a girl dog. Penny could sit, lay, go to her rug, fetch, and could bark when you told her to. She was a very obedient dog. We played fetch a lot. The dog I have now doesn't bring the ball back to me. Penny never did bite either. I liked her a lot.
One day when I was probably five years old Penny got hurt. When Penny came into the drive-way one day her tail got cut off. It didn't get totally cut off just about half of it. Her tail was really long.
Well, my mom told me that a car hit her or something like that and cut her tail off. I was in the house when it happened and I ran outside and I saw my brother, Casey, was in the very back of the van with Penny. There was a blanket under them and Casey was feeding Penny dog food. This happened on a weekend so my dad was home and he drove the van to the vet. Casey went with my dad. I had to stay home with my mom and sister.
When Penny came back from the vet she was fine. I think that she had to wear a cane. She looked really funny wearing it. She could still do all of her tricks. I was glad that she was okay.
Penny died when I was about 10. Do you know of a story like that? She was my favorite dog.
