Honus and Me
by Krista

The setting in "Honus and Me" takes place at Joe Stoshacks house, Amanda Youngs attic, and the year 1909.

Joe is a boy who collects baseball cards, he and his mother don't have very much money, they live in Louisville, Kentucky. His parents are divorced, most of the time he's with his mom, he's 12 or 13.

While Stosh was cleaning Amanda Youngs attick he found a Honus Wagner picture which is worth a lot of money so he kept it.

I predicted that he would probably keep it because of how much it was worth, but that is what actually happened.

Stosh meets Honus Wagner by traveling to the past and it was the year 1909, it was time for the world series and the Pittsburgh Pirates were in it.

So as I said Joe Stoshack travels to the past. The year 1909 was totally different their dug-outs were under the ground.

The authors writing skills are very good. He, or She was like keeping me interested, especially when Joe travels to the past and it's the world series and it just was really entertaining. That was basically my favorite part, or the part where Stosh is up to bat, well that is all I'm going to tell you. You'll have to check "Honus and Me" out for yourself.

What 1909 was like

1909 is/was very different from like 1997, 1998, 1999. Stuff was very different from now. Some examples baseball fields were different. There was no dug outs. The bleachers that they had were made out of wood. Another different thing was the amount of money they got and how much stuff cost. The baseball players like Honus got paid less than they do know. The amount of the candy bars was different. They were like $0.05 back in 1909 and now the candy is somewhere around $0.75. Another thing that is different is the numbers in the year 1909 and 1999. The women had great big hats back then.

How Stosh Found The Card

Stosh came home from school one day and his mom said to him," Ms. Young needs her attack cleaned and I said that you would do it." Stosh was mad because he didn't want to go do it, but he went over there after school one day and started to clean the attack at Ms. Young's house. Stosh was cleaning and going through some stuff. When he was done he was taking the boxes out to the garbage and when he set one of the boxes down the card fell out. That's how he found the card.

What you predicted Stosh would do

I predicted that Stosh would give the card back because it was the right thing to do. And after meeting Honus and everything how could you keep the card.

There were about three settings in the first part of the story. The first was the baseball field where Joe played baseball. The second setting was at Joe's house where him and his mom were talking about what to eat for dinner. The third setting was at Amanda Young's house (in the attic). That's when Stosh found the Honus Wagner T-206 card.

Stosh was a kind. He loved to collect cards. He had almost every person's card in the M.L.B. I mean, how many cards can you get. He has a lot of cards. He's a card collector.

Stosh was asked to go to Amanda Young's house to clean her attic. When he was cleaning he stumbled across an old box. He picked it up and the box broke open and all the papers fell out. He was putting the papers back in the box he found a baseball card. He turned and was amazed at what he saw.

I predicted that Joe would give the card back. One reason was because he admires Honus Wagner. Honus Wagner would give the card back. If he gave it back that would be the right choice.

Stosh first meets Honus when he is holding the card he wishes he could meet Honus. So over night Honus time travels to Stosh's bedroom. When Stosh wakes up in the morning he sees a big man in his bedroom. They tell stories and do other things but, I won't tell you anymore.

1909 was way different than Joe's time. One thing was that the cost of food was way lower. The baseball stadium was kind of different too. It was made out of wood. The ball was also different.

I think that the Author of this story, Dan Gutman, did a good job with the humor. I especially liked the part where he threw the rabbit and got the runner out. He got him out by a hare. I think that so far the Author is doing a good job. That was a pretty good story!

The story takes places at his house in a small city. He has a Mom and a Dad. And he is not a rich family. Where it took places was in Louisville, Kentucky. It is supposed to be a nice place to live.

Stosh is a young Man in the story. He is the guy that belongs up on top. Well he is an very bright young boy. He is also an very nice boy. He's a kid who collects cards. His favorite baseball player is Honus Wagner.
