About Our Web Site
Our sixth grade
class is just learning about desktop publishing and web publishing. Our classroom has
been hooked up to the Internet only since December, 1998, but we have been preparing files throughout the fall.
The students' introductory letters were begun at the start of the school year. They were typed on the computer, kept on individual disks (each student has a personal disk), and originally printed out in hard copy form. Students worked on skills such as editing for spelling and complete sentences, and learned about spacing after commas and periods. We spent quite a lot of time learning about what the tab key does and when to indent paragraphs, only to discover there are no tabs in HTML format!
In addition to using the word processor, students have enjoyed discovering the ways color and font styles can add to their work. They have also learned to insert simple clip art into their documents. In addition, some students have been learning about tables, and how they can be used to help place items on the page.
We are looking forward to adding more and more to our page, particularly in math and science. We are starting to work with a digital camera, and hope to have more in-school photographs in coming weeks.
We hope you enjoy our page.*
