Camp Collins
by Krista
Last week the whole 6th grade at Petersen School including the 6th graders at Sauvie Island went to Camp Collins for three days and two nights. We did types of obstacle courses, played games, and learned how to work together.
The obstacle courses were kind of challenging but not so hard to where you could not do them. One of the obstacle courses was a rock climbing course where your group leader would hook a rope to the harness. Then you would try to climb the wall.
Some of the games we played were totally new to us but some of them we had played before. One of the games played was a game where each person in your group would get a cone then one person would stand in the middle of the cones and would say "I like my neighbor who likes the color blue," then whoever liked the color blue would have to go to another cone. Another game we played was called Life or Death. We played that by getting separated into our number groups and we would be a herbivore, an omnivore or a carnivore. The carnivores would be able to eat everyone, the omnivore would eat the herbivore and the herbivore couldn't eat anyone. The way they would eat you is they would take one of your lives away from you.
While we were at camp we learned to work together and in order to be a good team you must work together and communicate with each other. We also learned that it is not gross to hold a boys or girls hand. At first all the kids in my group were like sick I'm not holding his or her hand until the group leader said we're not going anywhere until you hold hands.
I had a really good time at camp because I made new friends and just had a lot of fun working together.

Camp Collins By: Kate The whole sixth grade at Petersen and Sauvie Island stayed at Camp Collins on the second through fourth of June. We did all kinds of activities at camp. We did games, challenge courses, and learning activities. At Camp Collins we did a lot of games. We played games like link tag, butt-head tag, and the octopies and the sharks. These are mostly games that you would have to run around and tag other people. We played a game called life and death too. That game you would play in the woods. You would be a certain type of animal. You would either be a carnivore, an omdevor, or a herbivore. All of the other games we played in the corral. We did a lot of challenge courses at camp too. If we wanted to we could rock climb on artifactual rocks with a harness on. Rock climbing is really hard, but a lot of fun. After you get down you are really tired and sore. We also had to do things like obstacle courses and things with partner. |
We also did alot of learning activities there. We learned how to communicate better with others. Everyone in my group had to stand on a log then the group leader told all of us to get in order from tallest to shortest without touching the ground. If you did touch the ground then you would have to sing happy birthday to the group. We would have to talk to each other to figure out how to do it. We learned how to trust others too. We would have someone on a stand like thing attached to the tree. Then the person would have to fall backwards while everyone else would stand underneath with their arms out to catch the person.
I enjoyed being at Camp Collins. I thought that it was fun and full of learning. If I could I would go back to Camp Collins. Most of the people I talked to enjoyed it too.
Camp Collins

On June2,1999 the whole sixth grade went to Camp Collins until June4,1999. I will tell you what we did at camp, what we ate, wear we slept, and what games I played with the counselors.
When we first got to camp we took our stuff to our cabins which had bunks in them which were pretty big after we put our stuff away we went to the dinning hall that's wear we met with our counselor for that part of the day the counselors took us around camp then we did games with them. At lunch time we went back to our cabins and ate there then we went to another counselor and played more games. At dinner we went back to the dinning hall and ate spaghetti which was very yummy after dinner we had cabin time then we went to the campfire.
Here are some of the games we played. Butt head ( with Angela) which is wear some people put their hands on their head and some people put their hands on their butts then the butts tag the heads they turn into butts or the heads tag the butts and they turn to heads. Life & Death (with Spider) which is a game wear you have three different choices herbafor, omnivore, and carnivore. Herbafor is green they get chased by omnivore and carnivore, omnivore is blue they get chased by carnivores, and carnivores are red they chase everyone else. The object of the game is to keep your life which is ruber bands and to stay away from your predators.
Then there's the trust fall (with Wayne) this is wear you stand up on this platform about 3 feet off the ground and fall backwards into your groups arms but first there are a couple of things you have to say the first thing is spotters ready your group says yes, were ready cause their the spotters then you say I chose to fall your group says thank you then you say falling then you fall and that's the end.

Camp Collins: Eating
by Kendall
Eating at Camp Collins was a lot different than eating at school. At camp, you family style. Camp Collins' food was a lot better than I though it would be. The meals you eat are breakfast at 8:00am, lunch at 12:00pm, and dinner at 5:00pm.
At Camp Collins you eat family style. Family style is when one person gets up from your table and brings food to you, instead of everybody waiting in line with a tray like school. You also had to use family style manners, like talk in a conversational manner, pass food to your left, and don't put your elbows on the table. I thought eating at camp would be dumb like that, but after a while I though t it was pretty cool.
Camp Collins' food was really good."Spider", a consoler at camp said we were a lucky group because they just hired a new head cook, and the one before didn't make the food very good. I think we are lucky too.
The only thing some kids didn't really like at camp was that you had to get up early for breakfast, at 8:00am. Camp Collins did have good breakfast though, they had stuff like: pancakes, eggs, sausage, oranges, and hashbrowns. At lunch they had: sandwiches, soup, apples, and salad. At dinner they had meatloaf, spaggetti, salad, and rolls.

Camp Collins was a very fun place to go. I had a great time at Camp Collins. I'm going to talk about three main topics. Hear they are: rock climbing, their food, and the trust fall, and their game life or death.
When we went to Camp Collins we went rock climbing. The rock climbing actually was fun. We all made it to the top except for one and that was Anthony's mom. She only made it half way. The next activity I'm going to talk about is their food.
My friends and I didn't really like their food. The spaghetti tasted like soap and the rest of the food tasted OK. The next thing I'm going to talk about is the trust fall.
The trust fall is fun. It's where people line up and a person falls into their arms. That all I have to say about that.
Next I'm going to talk about the game life or death. That was a fun game. There were three colors they were green, blue, and pink and if you were green you ran from the blue because they can eat you and if you were blue you ran from the pink and the pink didn't have to run.

Camp Collins: Rock Climbing

I had alot of fun at Camp Collins. These are the fun things included running games, Survival games,, and trust games. I think the best thing at Camp Collins was the rock climbing area. These are three reasons why I liked rock climbing the best. The first reason is it was really fun. The next reason is it helped me get over my fear of heights. Well, it helped a little bit. The final reason why I liked the rock climbing area best is all of the cheering.
First I want to tell you that rock climbing is the funnest thing I have ever done in my life so far. The best part about the whole experience is you can't fall. Even if you do slip the counselor is there to catch your fall. It is also very fun. The second best part about the experience is coming down. You get to swing down by kicking the wall. Anyway, now I love rock climbing even though I have only done it once.
Secondly I want to say being able to rock climb has helped me some what it helped me get over my fear. Fear of heights that is. It might have only helped a little bit, but it still helped.
The last reason I liked rock climbing the best is everyone was cheering me on. When I first started I didn't think I would be able to make it to the top, but then the cheering started and I knew I would be able to go to the top.
In conclusion I just want to say I love Camp Collins and I love rock climbing.

Camp Collins by Anthony A-6 Camp was fun and I will tell you about the food, and the activities, and sneaking out on the last night. Camp had some good food but wasn't as good as school but camp had dessert. Camp had breakfast, there was sausage, pancakes, eggs, and fruits. Lunch had peanut butter and jelly, tomato soup, cookies and fruits. Dinner was bad. It had meatloaf, spaghetti and some more gross stuff. We had some cool activities like the wall, the wall was a cool activity because you got to climb at least 20 feet or 30 feet. And there was some more cool stuff like the trust fall and life or death and a lot more activities. On the last night of camp we snuck out of camp with our chaperones and went down to the campfire and the counselors told us scary stories. The reason we got to go to camp is because we got a lot of money so we got to got to camp. |
Camp Collins

On June 2 the 6th grade went on a camping trip to Camp Collins. We had fun there doing the games and activities. Some of the activities were the trust fall, Life or Death, and the Rock Wall.
The trust fall was a dangerous activity. You would have to stand on a platform abut 4 feet off the ground. The rest of the group would have to stand in two lines and have there hands out like a zipper. What I mean "like a zipper" is that everyone's hands are every other to the people across from them. The person on the platform would say "now falling" and the catchers would say "fall away" and the person on the platform would fall off.
Life or Death ,I thought, was a fun game. The game is played with herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores. The herbivores would have a green ribbon tied around there head and 10 rubber bands as lives. Carnivores would have a pink ribbon tied around there heads and 0 rubber bands for lives. Omnivores would have a blue ribbons tied around there heads and 5 rubber bands for lives. The way carnivores would earn the rubber bands would be that they would tagging the omnivores and herbivores. omnivores would earn lives by tagging herbivores. Herbivores would have to find someone who was giving out rubber bands when they were out. The only thing that could kill the carnivores was the hunter. the hunter could kill who ever he wanted.
The Rock Wall is a wall that is about 20 feet tall. It has big and little stubs on it. You are in a harness with a rope tied to you. You have to tie and climb to the top by climbing on the stubs. Some people reach the top, some didn't, some didn't even try.
The camp was really fun and everyone had a good time. Maybe the 5th graders will get too.
