Africa Project
Project Activities:
I. Complete a factual, written report on your country.
A. Use the computer to type your reports. The written part should be a total of at least six pages, double-spaced (or if single spaced, at least 3/4 page per essay). Font should be 12 pt. Do not use all capitals or cursive fonts.
B. Written report must include essays on the following four topics, organized using the Bing, Bang, Bongo method (introductory paragraph, at least three paragraphs of supporting information in logical order with topic sentences, and concluding paragraph):
1. Life styles of the people [language(s), religion(s), schools, festivals, recreation].
2. Geography and animal habitats.
3. Natural resources of your country [imports and exports, economy and jobs].
4. History and government [history portion may be a timeline].
5. Extra Credit: Write about a famous person associated with your country.
D. Use at least 2 sources of material besides the encyclopedia or Encarta. Include a bibliography (be sure to use proper format) that tells what these sources are.
C. Include at least two drawings and one hand-drawn map in your report that give additional information about your topic (include titles, captions and keys).
E. Make a title page that includes Name, Date, Title of Report, and Teacher Name for your report.
F. Make a table of contents page that lists your essays and drawings and or maps. Also make a cover that is neat and attractive.
II. Give a minimum three-minute oral presentation on your topic. You may include visual aids with this.
III. (Extra Credit): Make a poster with illustrations on some African topic to post in the classroom or the hall. [This can include finding information about your country on the Internet and downloading it, and putting it on a poster to share.]
Timeframe: Written projects are to be completed by March 4, 2003. Presentations will be given to class March 10, 2002. Note: Late reports will not be included in trimester grade and will have major negative inpact on final Social Studies grade on report card.
Weekly calendar:
Week 1 Feb. 7- 13: Choose country and begin research. Take notes that may be used in footnotes. A hand-drawn map of the country will be due by Feb. 13 that may be used in report.
Week 2 Feb. 14 - 20: Write first and second essays. Complete bibliography in proper bibliography format.
Week 3 Feb. 21- 27: Write third and fourth essays. Work on drawings.
Week 4: Feb. 28- March 3: Cover, title page, and table of contents.
March 4: Turn in report.
March 4-10: Work on oral presentation.
