A-6 Visits WWII Veterans
Yesterday some Veterans came to our school library. During that time they told us about some of the things they did in the war. Right now I'm going to tell you about some of the things they told us.
During the war when the tanks stopped at the stores the kids would run out and sign the tanks. But the kids only knew how to say two words and those words were chocolate and cigarettes. So they would ask for chocolate and cigarettes. The cigarettes were for their parents of course. The soldiers normally didn't have chocolate or cigarettes but the kids would still ask for the chocolate.
As you know this coming Monday 11/12/01 is Veterans Day. Over by the police station they will being having a memorial service. Anybody is more then welcome.
I hope you learned a little about something the kids did during the war.

Yesterday some veterans from Scappoose come to tell us about the wars they fought in. I will tell you what I learned about the war in France and Korea.
The guy who fought in the war at France was a tank driver. The kids at France would come up to the tanks when they were stopped and ask the tank drivers if they had any chocolate or cigarettes. For France children these were the only two English words most of them knew. That is about France.
The guy who fought in the Korean war built bridges. When a bridge got destroyed he would come along and but plat forms down so the tanks can go across and fight the enemy. He put three platforms down for each tank. That is what I learned about the Korean war.
I hope you enjoyed reading about France and Korea.

When I went to see the veterans in the library I heard all their tragic experiences.
And one said the constitution was like a baton, like when W.W.2 got over the veterans of W.W.2 past the baton to the veterans of the Korean war and now those veterans are passing the baton to the young men of todays war against Afghanistan.
When I talked to one of the veterans I told him my grandpa was on the same ship as him and he asked who he was and I said Walter R. and he said he knew him. Then he said my dad pulled him over and said that my dad's dad was on that ship.

When I went to the library to talk to the veterans they had a bunch of stuff to look at. The first veteran told us about how he drove in a tank. He kept driving the Germans back farther and farther back. When he went to France the little boys and girls would ask for cigarettes and chocolate.
When the second man got up, he told us what he did. When the Germans were moving back they blew up the bridges and the second guy rebuilt them.

Learning from the Veterans
Tuesday morning we got to hear from the veterans. The veterans are people that were in the war. They told us some really cool things. When they came into a town all the kids would write their names and addresses on the tank. The reason was because they wanted ice cream and cigarettes.
Another thing was the Germans hid wine bottles in their gardens so when they came to Germany they would get the wine.
The war was a hard time. The veterans deserve to be honored.

Well, yesterday 11-6-01 we met the veterans of World War II. Every year they come to our school. On our library time we listen to what they have to say about World War II and other wars.
Well, we meet 4 to 5 different guys. They talked about the time when they went to France. Children would come up to them and since they didn't speak English they decided to signed the tank and they put their names and their addresses. When ever the soldiers would come the children would go up there and say chocolate and cigarettes and they would eat the chocolate and give the cigarettes to their parents. He said it was a blast to see all the children in France. So that's what he said.
This is what another guy said. He said that the war was real scary and he thought he was going to die. He said that it's an honor to die for your country, but it's better if you make the other guy on the other side to die for his own country instead of you. He also talked about the attack that happened on Sept. 11-01. We have to stay strong for our country. He said we were kinda at war, but not really. He also said that every time there is a war we sent the constitution to a soldier and he will defend it through the whole war. When our sons are all grown up we will pass the constitution down to them and they will defend it too.
Well that's what I learned yesterday. I hope you had a fun time listening to my essay about the veterans. Well, if you came to this school you would know how cool it was to learn about the veterans. Thank you very much.

Yesterday when we saw the Veterans there were a few things I learned.
One of them is how hard it must of been really hard for them to see their friends die, and to lose their lives to a bunch of countries fighting over land that has no owner.
Another is how many jobs there are. There is driving tanks, cooking food, being doctors and nurses, and the biggest job, fighting.
I don't think it would be too fun to be a Veteran fighting in, or working for, the army.

The Veterans
Yesterday I went to the library and visited the veterans. I learned that during the war, there were kitchen police, or K.P. The kitchen police's job was to wash all the dishes and peel the 1,000 pounds of potatoes.
During the war, the riflemen were the men in the front and the tanks in the back. One veteran said, "It's an honor to die for your country, but you better make sure that other poor sucker dies for his country first!" Another veteran said that they were killing Chinese left and right, and there were so many of 'em that they were laying in piles on the battlefield.

I learned that being in the military is not an easy task. You have to go through boot camp and training but you may die.
I really didn't learn anything else but I liked how the kids can say "chocolate" and "cigarettes."

Hi, I'm Teonna. When we went to the library yesterday we learned about World War 2 . There was 4 guys to tell us but we only heard 2 of their stories. I'm only going to tell you about 1 of them.
This is what he said. "I was driving my tank when the Chinese blew parts of the bridge up. So some of my men started building the bridge while I was driving so I wouldn't have to stop." Well that's what he said.
It was pretty hard for them cause they saw people come and go just like that so please don't disrespect them cause they been through a lot of stuff with people dying.
Thanks for reading my story.

I learned how much technology we had and what we did. I'm going to write about those things. I hope you learn something.
When somebody blew a bridge we made three. The Germany people blow up a bridge we made three for tanks. When tanks stopped people wanted candy and cigarettes.
When we stopped we gave stuff to people and made stuff. We could build a bridge in days. This is about World War II.
These are the things I learned about the war. I hope you learned something.

The Veterans
I learned that Veterans had a hard time in the wars, how they saw their friends die. If I were one of those Veterans I might not of had the courage to fight in the war. Or watch my friends die.
Those Veterans are like some of the only people in the world to have lived. They were brave enough to kill the enemy. I know they are heros to probably thousands of kids, adult, or even teens.
Those four veterans came to our school and two of them spoke. The first veteran who spoke had my card that I made him. He also spoke about what machinery he used, what he drove. He also talked about his dead friends and the badges he had on his hat and coat.
At the end of the Veterans talk I think the veterans were very happy that we were all courteous, and that we didn't talk when they talked. Who knows how long they will live. If you are the next class to see them make sure you did as good as we did!

World War 2
Veterans VisitWhat I learned about the veterans is that their whole life was at danger. Every step they took they risked their lives. They were nice when I met them and they were very lucky. Some of them didn't even get shot or get an injury.
When I met them they had badges and had metal called shrapnel. Shrapnel is a material that hits a ship and explodes. They also had pictures of them when they were younger. They also had pictures of battleships and tanks and how the war went on. World War 2 definitely changed the world and all the people.

I learned so much about the veterans and I am glad that they came and talked to us. The veterans were like living history books and had so much to talk about.
The veterans showed me so many things I did not know. They showed how hard it was to fight and the people who honored them. One veteran showed our class the ship he worked on.
I am glad that they took the time to talk to me and my class.
