How Blacks Were Treated
by Debbie

Do you think how whites treated blacks was wrong? Well, I sure do. I was reading this book called Sweet Summer by Bebe Moore Campbell. The book was about an eleven-year-old girl who was in the 1960's. What she saw on television was wrong. She saw whites bring hoses out to spray the black people down. The policemen brought their German Shepard dogs out to have them attack the people, so they wouldn't protest anymore.

Anyway, back in the 1960's a lot of people didn't like what was going on with the blacks. The blacks were trying to get their rights, but a lot of people hate them for doing that. So Bebe Moore did a report on a book that blacks were fighting for their rights. Miss Tracey was mad at Bebe and gave her a B and it said next time "follow directions." So her mother did care that she didn't follow directions. I personally think she should have the freedom to choose what she wants to talk about. I also think blacks should have all their rights.
