A Day Without Electricity
By Marcus K., A-9

I woke up and rolled over to look at the clock. The clock was dead. The alarm didn't go off so I didn't know what time it was. I reached for my watch. It was powered by a battery so it should work. I got up and walked into the shower. The shower water was usually warm, but today it was ice cold. My reflexes carried me right out of the dark room.

My stomach was rumbling furiously. I got some clothes on and went into the kitchen to get my usual breakfast. I popped my breakfast into the microwave and pushed the start button. Nothing moved. I pressed it again and again before I realized it was out too. If I couldn't get any food, I would at least have a cold glass of milk. The milk was as warm as my body. The refrigerator was dead also.

Then a thought struck my mind. Our house had no electricity. My body was shaking from the cold. I was hoping that my school had electricity still.

I grabbed my backpack and walked down to the bus stop. The bus arrived on time as usual. It headed down to the school and we all got off. I walked into the gym and knew immediately that there was no electricity. The lights were all off and the kids were sitting in darkness.

Class wasn't much better. Our room was on the east so we had sunlight to do our work. We didn't have any papers because the scanner didn't work. We also had to share our class with a class on the west side because they had no light. We did all of our work together on the chalkboard. We usually do work on the overhead but of course we couldn't use it.

The day didn't improve at all. The music class was so boring because the CD player didn't work. PE we had to play outside in the cold weather because the gym was so dark that no one could see. Recess we didn't know when to go outside or come in because we had no bells. At lunch we ate peanut butter and jelly sandwiched with warm juice.

When I finally got home I tried to turn on the TV. Nothing happened as I realized. I didn't know what to do with myself. When it finally got dark I went to hop in the hot tub. The hot tub was 70 degrees, more like a cold tub. I went to bed hoping that tomorrow would be better.

A Day without Electricity
by Sheena D., A-9

One day on July 29 in a city in Massachusetts where there was an old man who lived in the forest near the city. All he ever does all day is sit in his chair and watches T.V. and one bright sunny morning he got up ate breakfast and got dressed and when he went to go turn the T.V. on it wouldn't turn on. So he went to see if it was unplugged and it was, then when he turned it on again and still it wouldn't turn on. So he wanted to eat lunch he made a T.V. dinner and the microwave wouldn't work, then he made a sandwich. Then he remembered he had wash his clothes but the washer and the dryer didn't work. So he wanted to take a shower then when he got in no water came out and that made him really mad, then he said "Oh no, today is 'No Electricity Day'. So all he did was play cards, play board games, drive around in his car, and wrote a story. He also took nap for a while but when he woke up it was the next day but he didn't feel very good so he went back to bed so he wouldn't have to waste electricity. Now the old man knows not to waste electricity so he wouldn't have to pay the electric bill. So now he knows what it's like when its 'No Electricity Day'. Watch out for 'No Electricity Day'.

ONE DAY WITHOUT ELECTRICITY
by Robbie G., A-9

One day I got up and looked at my alarm clock and it was not working. I went out to the bathroom and was going to wash my face but the water was not working. I ran and woke up my dad and asked what was wrong. He went to the circuit breaker but it did not do any thing to help. There was no electricity! I decided I was hungry, so I went to the refrigerator to get the milk and realized it was warm. After I was done eating I got dressed and went to the barn. I turned on the light but it did not work so I went to feed my sheep in the dark. Then I realized it was having a lamb.

I ran to the house and told mom and dad. They told me to boil some water. I told them the stove was not working. Therefore, they told me to go to the pond and get some water and to grab some matches. I ran out to the pond and got some water. When I got back my mom had some towels and my dad had some wood and paper. I made the fire and soon the water was boiling. I helped the ewe have its lambs and there were three.

One lamb was limping, 4 hours later, so we tried called the vet. The telephone did not work so I wrapped the leg up with a bandage. I had to empty the drinking water for the sheep because the lambs might drown. I transferred the water into a smaller size bucket. I was very happy, my first triplets! !

I finished feeding the sheep and then I fed my ducks. Their water was nasty so I had to scrub it with no hose and had to haul the water from the pond. It was hard and tiring. I got many letters that day because the telephones were not working.

I was going to put information about the triplets in my 4-H records. The computer not working so I had to do it by hand.

My clothes were all bloody because I helped the new lambs but when I went to wash my clothes, the washer did not work. I was mad because my mom told me to wash them by hand. When I was cleaned up. I went to bed. It was an exhausting day. I hope tomorrow there will be electricity.
