My November Book Report:
The Velvet Room, book report by Karissa
I'm going to tell you about a book I read called The Velvet Room. This book was written and illustrated by Zilpha Keatley Snyder. This book started in model-T car but after a while they get to their new home at Las Palmeras. This was a while back around the 1960's.
The main characters are Robin Williams, Gwen McCurdy, and Bridget McCurdy. Robin is a real adventurous kind of girl. She loves to do anything exciting. Gwen is kind of the same only she's more of a rich type. Bridget is a sweet old lady but most of the village kids think she's a witch.
Lots of things happen in this book that's what makes it so good. During the book Bridget gives Robin a key but doesn't tell her what it's for. Then she finds that it leads to a secret passage. It leads into the house where she finds the velvet room. Then when she hears about the ghost Bonita of Las Palmeras, she thinks she hears the ghost. Then Bridget tells her that it was just the old tiles. Then she finds out that Bridget is Bonita. See I told you there was lots of action.
The climax is this book is probably where Bridget tells Robin that she's Bonita. That's when everything starts to fall into place. All the problems were solved at the very end. Robin is in the Velvet Room saying goodbye because she decided to go with her parents. Then she hears someone come into the house so she hides behind the drapes. It was Fred Criley. He was robbing the house. When he got closer her hand hit the flashlight and it was sprained. She went back, told everyone who it was and she was in bed for a few days. Fred was fired and Robin's dad got a job to keep the Velvet Room clean so she got to stay there.
I thought this book was great and anyone would like it. It had lots of action, it was exciting, and it was great. The author did a great job, I think. Now I've told you all about the Velvet Room. I told you about the setting, main characters, climax, resolution, and the conclusion.
