New Providence 1875- 2015

Every 20 years there were many changes to population, land area, pets, and the number of vehicles and structures. Some changes were small, but many were drastic. Like the population from 1887 to 1895, for instance, was a huge change from 4,750 to 22,000. And for drastic changes, for example, you could look at the changes of population from 1975 to 1995. The population went down from 320,000 to 280,000! Through out the years many things in New Providence changed even by its looks. In 1875 the roads were dirt, the sidewalks brick, and people only wore black and white. If you look forward about 100 years in 1970 you'd see few people, and those who were out were protesting. There was a lot of graffiti on the walls and ground, there was a lot of trash, they ads on buildings for cigarets, bear, and different stores and restaurants, and there were many stores.

In 1875 there were hotels, drug stores, a library, restaurants, and grocery stores. They had very decorative gardens, a cemetery, circus carriages, and the carriages were pulled by horses. In 1910, 40 years later, they had brick roads, a new gazebo, still people wore only black and white, there were lots of big trees, new statue, and the streets were crowding. They had some law buildings, like court and offices; a dentist, still a grocery store, and restaurants. After 15 years, 1935, New Providence was beginning to expand. There was a photography building, still a hotel, grocery stores, ice cream and soda stands, a laundry mat, post office, law enforcement, insurance, a bank and a jeweler. The roads were now paved, there were trolleys, statues of people, and advertisements for Coca-Cola.

As you can tell through the past 8 decades the streets changes, dirt to brick to pavement; people continued to wear black and white, more and more buildings were being put in, and transportation changed. The transportation changed by first starting with horse drawn carriages, to horse drawn carriages and cable cars, to horse drawn carriages, cable cars, and motor cars. The population had a big leap though each year! (4,750-22,000-85,000) Buildings were also rapidly being built. The more buildings being built meant the higher the population

Then in 1955 population soared. They had insurance companies, law enforcement, laundry mats, drug stores, grocery stores, stores, a pharmacy, hotels and motels, and a cars dealership. They now had fire trucks, street lights, construction was going on at the time, and people were still wearing black. By 1970 the had a movie theater, a laundry mat, a day school, a music store, insurance, and law enforcement. There was very few people, street lights, people were protesting and there was writing on walls and ground. They had a McDonalds, computer store, fitness center, a bank, a gazebo, more stores, a movie theater, and a grocery store.
