New Providence Report
I have been concentrating on the center section of New Providence. In 1875 the road was just compacted dirt. There was a church with a steeple and a cemetery nearby. There was a hardware store and quite a few farms in the distance. I saw an old bike with a large front wheel riding in the park. There were horse drawn carriages in the road.
In 1910 there were cable cars, model T's and A's and I saw an old Rolls Royce in the road paved with bricks. There were also a few horse drawn carriages. There was a jewelry store and a bank. There was a gazebo in the center of the park and the parks perimeter was trees. There was a small amount of farmland in the distance. The Getz and McMclure department store had just been built. The church was still there but the cemetery was gone.
1935 the time of the depression. The church managed to stay up for 60 years and is still around. The sidewalk and streets were paved but falling apart and breaking down. There were more houses in the background. There were people in the park clustered around burn barrels which meant that they had probably lost everything they owned. There were fewer trees in the park and background. Comedian, Charlie Chaplian was at the newly built theater called the "Strand". There was a zepplin and at the theater Walt Disney's Lady and the Tramp was playing.
In 1970 there were some major changes. Part of the road was gone and a open mall was in it's place. The park had been destroyed and in its place was a large open concrete area. The road was also gone and in its place was a mall. The bank had a modernized look to it. The theater was playing a beatles movie let it be. There was lots of new art in the mall and park. I saw a holdup in the "park". There were lots of liquor ads and a Woolworth's had moved in on main street. This was the time of the Vietnam War.
In 1980 there was lots of graffiti in the "park". There were run down buildings all over and new ones being built. There was a some what green background though most of it had been logged. I saw a crane putting up a building.
In 1990 the mall was gone and in it's place was the road again. Where the open concrete area, was the park was back. In the park there were lots of trees and a gazebo. There was a shoe store and a lot of florists on main street.
In 2015 I think that there will be lots of cars that are run by batteries and there will more planes in the sky and maybe an airport. The background will have less trees and more houses.
Also in 2015 there might be armed guards because of Sept 11 in 2001. There might be less planes or less cars and more check stations. Also there might be a money shortage in which there might be another Great Depression. In this case there will be probably some homeless people and lots of run down buildings. Anything can happen in the future.
