Water Everywhere
There we were, my friend and I last year at the river. We were out swimming and the next thing we know it was getting dark. Our mothers had told us to be home by 5:00. So we started home.
When I hot home my mom had been worried. I told her I've lost track of time. She was really tired and sent me to bed. It rained and rained all night.
The next day we had no school and stayed home and worked around the house. After I was done I called my friend.
He said that he was bored and wanted to go swimming.
I told him I'd ask my mom and she said, "Yes." So we would meet at the swimming hole.
When I got there he was waiting. So I walked up to him and he was sleeping.
So I woke him up and we went to the water edge and the water had gone up. So we jumped in and swam all day until it started pouring and the river had a few more inches of water.
So we ran to my house and watched T.V. It rained all day.
The next week it rained all week so we wanted to do something out of the house so we grabbed our rain gear and fishing poles and went to the river.
We had spent all day fishing. When we were fishing it started pouring. We watched the river and the water kept rising.
So we ran to town to tell our parents that the river was starting to flood. So our parents went to take a look and the river was over the bank and in the forest.
So our parents got ready for a flood. They had kits, flashlights, and boats ready.
In a couple of days the river had gone up a couple of feet. In a week it had gone up into town. People had sandbags everywhere to keep out water. They had to keep 7 feet of water out.
The river had kept rising so people started moving to high places. Our houses are on a hill out of town so some people came to our house.
We also had dug trenches to keep out water. The town lost some stores and houses to the water. There was not a person hurt.
Today is a year after that flood and it is a nice day and we are at the river fishing.
