The Usual Thanksgiving
There I was with my family at the dinner table, it was Thanksgiving and my grandparents were over. My name is Rebecca and I have a sister named Marta who is one year old. Tonight is a special night with a feast of turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, and bread. I was sluping down the last of my apple juice when, Splat!!! Mashed potatoes everywhere. I could practically hear my mom's volcano burst!
She was glaring at Marta, with spoon and mashed potatoes in hand. Marta was paying so much attention to the wads of mashed potatoes dripping down the wall, that she didn't even notice my mom putting her in her room for a time out.! "Rebecca come here!" I know this was a bad sign. Everytime Marta does something, I have to clean it up! When I enetered the laundry room, there stood my mom, the mop, and the big red bucket.
When I got done mopping, we got back to Thanksgiving dinner. After that it wasn't quite the same. There was that horibbly disgusting thin layer of crust on the gravy, and flies buzzing over the stuffing. But when it came down to pie time, everything was fantastic. What I mean by that is first, on my pumpkin pie, mom put on three times the amount of whipped cream! MMM! Then, later that night when I was sitting on the couch, with Marta on my lap, mom told us something amazing, wonderful, incredible, and awesome. Nobody knew except my mom, not even my dad. In 9 months, I would have another sibling!!! I was so excited! Later that evening, when I was in my bed, sleeping, I had a dream that we had the perfect feast. We lived in a mansion, and there were not mashed potatoes on the walls. We had never heard of mops, or buckets, and I didn't have a sister.
When I woke up the next morning, I decided I wouldn't want to live in a mansion, because every year here is the same. There are some problems, but always a happy ending. I guess you could call it a tradition, or the usual thanksgiving.
Wait! There's something else; 9 months later I got a baby brother. His name is Tucker, and his birthday is August 19, 2001.
The End.
