Getting into Science Fiction

The Giver

by Lois Lowry

The setting is in a different world - a place that is supposed to be perfect. It is different. They cannot see color. Parents adopt kids - not have them through birth. They don't call most things there real names.

Right now the main character is Jonas. He is an average person learning new and weird things. The Giver is an old man with lots of memory to five to a receiver. Dad is a nurturer but lied to Jonas as he secretly was killing babies.

So far Jonas is confused with everything that's going on. He loves his dad but he is doing the wrong thing. The problem is he wants to stop the killings of the baby but can't.

I think Jonas will try to make the community the same as it was before.

The setting takes place in the future where the chief elder picks your job when you are only twelve years old. When you are "released" it means you die.

The main characters are: Jonas, Lilly, Dad, Mom, The Giver, Gabe, Asher, Chief Elder, Rosemary, and the twins. Asher is Jonas's best friend. Lilly and Gabe are Jonas's brother and sister. Lilly will be a nine and get her bicycle. The Giver is Jonas's instructor aa a receiver.

The plot is Jonas just watched them release one of the twins and Jonas didn't know what "release" meant. Jonas is mad at his dad and the whole community for killing the twin and old people and even letting them kill people that break the rules three times.

The end will be Jonas changes the rules of releases and all the people get the memories and everyone lives normal.

The setting takes place in a community where one person has all the pain and all the feelings. That one person is the only person that can see color. This place has no connection to anywhere else. When you are nine you get a bike. When there are twins they kill one.

The main characters are Jonas, the Giver, his friend Asher, Jonas's dad and Jonas's brother.

I think the problem is that Jonas is going to have something bad happen to him. I think that he will train somebody else in the end and they will pass.

The setting is in a colony. It is very far ahead in the future. It is so far ahead, most people don't remember the life that we are living now.

The two most important main characters are Jonas and the Giver. There is also his family, his mom, his dad, and Lily. His best friends Asher and Fiona are important too.

I think the plot problem is that Jonas will either run away or ask to be relieved. The memories will be exposed. I think this because he was talking about leaving, he's getting overwhelmed with pain, and he wants the colony to change.

I predict he will run away and then come back years later. I think this because by then with the memories having been exposed later the colony will change.

This story takes place somewhere in the future in a place where people cannot make too many choices for themselves. A boy named Jonas turns 12-years-old who will become the new receiver, the one who will keep the good and bad memories of the past. After he finds out what pain, war, and release mean, Jonas feels like his world is big and scary sound. The Giver, his teacher, tries to explain all these terrible new feeling, but Jonas still has trouble accepting the way things will work.

I predict that Jonas will travel to a different place to become what he wants, or confront his father and become the receiver.
