"Running Creek"
A True Story
I lived in a little town called Parker, it was in Colorado. I was always getting in to trouble there wasn't much things to do. One time I kept throwing crab apples at cars. Never mind that. What I am about to tell you was a life and death matter. I will never go to the "Running Creek."
It was about 3:30 p.m. and there was nothing to do. I got tired of smacking my sisters with a pillow. It was Saturday and it was raining. I just looked out the window and realized how cool it would be to go outside! I jumped into my boots, got my hat on and went outside.
Just as I was about to jump in my puddle. . . . "George get in here." It was my mom. I came to the door. "What is it momster?" "It's too wet to be outside." "But mom." "No buts about it." "Fine." I stuck out my tongue at her. "Now I got to work in my office. Watch your sisters," mom said.
Mom went into her office. Hold on if mom goes into her office I can sneak outside. So I got on my sweatshirt and my shorts and went outside. I did not bother to put my boots on. I just slipped on my airwalks. It was raining very hard. So hard it felt like ice chunks coming down on me. There was only one problem" "The creek" it was over flowing water.
Now my mom told me to stay away from the creek but it was so cool my eyes lit up when I saw it. Besides my friends Jamie and Chad were over there. They were both 14 and were very strong. Chad was standing in the middle of the creek Jamie was on the side. The water was up to Chad's thighs!
"Stand in" Chad said it feels cool on your feet. OK! I took my shoes off and jumped in.
Pause! Was this really a smart thing to do, I thought could this kill me, Why did I do this and what did I have for lunch? I was standing on the creek floor for a brief moment. The creek was up to my waist. Then I was sucked under. Sitting in that water I though I was dead it all happened so fast. Just as I was about to be sucked into a hole a branch caught my shirt.
No not a branch Jamie grabbed me and pulled me up After that I faint4ed. When I woke up I was still outside. "Are you OK Chad said?" "Yeah" I said. See the so call hole was a sewage drain. It went in about 50 feet in and had bars in the middle so big stuff could not get through. If I would of got in there I would have been a goner. As I walked home I knew my mom was going to be raging with anger. Should I run away no I was cold and wet.
Of course I was grounded til I was 35 but it was OK. I regret it from this day forward. Still who knows maybe next time it rains and I am in Parker I might pay a vist to the "Running Creek."
