Slavery Poems
by Devon, 2002
My skin is as dark as night
My people have new enemies that are whiteWe are fighting a losing battle
And being carried off in shacklesWe are taken to a cruel new place
And getting to know a whip's cold embraceAll my people await the day of Freedom.
I'm black and I don't understand
why I always get a white man's back hand.Isn't every man the same
it's the white people to blame. They have shattered our dreams
And laughed at our deaf screams. But one day we won't be different from the rest
and the world will be at its best.
