A-6 Considers . . . .

Should Sixth Grade Be in Elementary or Middle School?

Middle or Elementary?
by Beth

Kids these days are becoming more mature, and most kids that go to 6th go to an older, more mature school known as Middle School, where most kids learn the ways of high school: switching classes, having lockers, and the need to know very good organization skills. I would like to tell you why kids should be in middle school. The first reason is responsibility, interscholastic sports, and choice of classes. These are some reasons why 6th grade should be in middle school.

The first reason 6th graders should be in middle school is responsibility. Responsibility is a big thing for older kids. They know where to go and when to go and most know when to talk and when to be quiet.

The second reason why 6th graders should be in middle school is interscholastic sports to where they can play against other schools.

The third reason why 6th graders should be in middle school is choices: art Spanish, computers, woodwork, and any sports like football, track and field, basketball, volleyball, etc.

That is my paper on why 6th graders should be in middle school and why they need the opportunity for responsibility, interscholastic sports, and choices of classes.

Should Sixth Grade be with Seventh and Eighth Grade
by: Josh

I think sixth grade should be with seventh and eighth grade because the work we do is almost at the same level as their work, and it would give fourth and fifth graders more class rooms and it would also give them more time, and I think we are old enough for no recess.

We work at almost the same level as them. And I think it might be fun to jump from subject to subject. And we also we do almost the same amount of home work as seventh and eighth. And that's one of the reasons I think sixth should be with seventh and eighth.

And it would give fourth and fifth graders more rooms so they could have more room and they could have smaller classes and the teacher wouldn't have so many kids to worry about. And they could have more time in music, band, library, and P.E. and that is my second reason.

And we're too old for recess so we would be fine with no recess because we get all the exercise in P.E.and in seventh and eighth there is no recess and so it would be perfect and besides we're not in elementary school any more and that is my final reason.

That's why I think sixth should be in the same school as seventh and eighth and besides every other city is like that so why shouldn't our school and I hope you agree with me.

Sixth Grade
by Mike

Should 6th grade be in with the Middle School? I think we should because they have interscholastic sports, better teachers, and longer periods.

I think we should because they have interscholastic sports. It's funner because we play other schools.

The other reason is there are better teachers. They're better because they are trained for one subject.

The last reason is longer periods. I would like them because I can get more work done.

I think we should because they have interscholastic sports, better teachers, and longer periods.

Sixth Grade
by Roland

In this essay I will tell you why I don't think that sixth graders should be combined with the mid school. The first reason is that the mid school has no recess. The second is that the mid school changes classes for each subject.

I don't think that the mid school should be combined with the sixth grade school because all kids need at least fifteen minutes to stretch out their muscles and just play. In mid school they don't have a playground and everybody likes to play. Even big kids and adults like to play.

The second reason that I don't think that the two schools should be put together is that the mid school has to change classes for every subject. I think that it would be confusing for the sixth grade kids to change rooms for every class.

This concludes my essay on the reasons on why I am not for combining the sixth grade classes with the mid school.

6th, 7th, & 8th
by Kaylin

Imagine a place were the sixth graders are treated like elementary students. Well this place isn't so imaginary after all. We should be treated like middle schoolers because it gives us more responsibility, it lets us interact with older students, & it lets us take more subjects.

When we are in the middle school it gives us more responsibility because, we have to keep track of our work, and classes, and we have to remember a locker combination. And all the different classes you'd have to remember what teacher is teaching what class and what work goes where. It just gives us better responsibility and it gives us a better chance to be responsible.

Being in the middle school would let us interact with older kids. I'm sure your thinking that we already grow up to fast as it is but your just delaying the inevitable. I mean we already act like middle schoolers so its not going to matter much.

If we were in the middle school we would have more classes and more subjects than in the middle school rather than in Petersen like art every other day and thank God P.E.

Mid-School?
by Chelsea

The question is, should sixth grade be in the middle school or should we stay here. My personal view is that we should go. I will give you three or four reasons why later on in this essay. It should be a choice that we all agree on so I am going to say my points to you now.

The lunch hour would be a very important part of the day, where we would get our work done and then have the rest of an hour to have our fun and do what we want. It would also be a lot easier than going out three times a day. I think that it would solve some problems.

Second reason. I think it would be a lot more fun for us because we would meet more people and we might be able to chew gum or that might be the high school but either way, it would be a lot more fun. Also, you wouldn't have the same teacher(s) for the whole year.

Third part. The computer system doesn't crash all the time like the computers in the library do here. We would be able to actually get to use the computers and get a lot more homework done by being able to research in the library.

Fourth reason. The computer system is so much better there. I don't mean by it not crashing, but by the extensive kinds of internet. There is most likely two or three types. AOL, maybe Bluelight.com, and they could have Lotus. That's my favorite. Or, they might have some internet company that is not listed here or I have never heard of.

So, those are the reasons that I think we would be better off in the mid-school. There are many more reasons why we should but I think this is about the limit of time I have to say all of this. I hope you think the same way I do, but if you don't, that's okay because everybody's different. And so is every decision.

Sixth Grade Should Be in Middle School
by Annie

I think sixth graders should be in middle school because the middle school has interscholastic sports and elementary has intermural. Also sixth graders are mature. Also most middle schools have sixth grade.

I think interscholastic sports would be more fun than intermural. You get to play different schools not just other classes. Most sixth graders want to be in middle school.

Sixth graders are mature. We should be in middle school with the seventh and eighth graders. We should be in middle school because we are mature.

We should be in middle school because most of the other schools have sixth, seventh and eighth grade in middle school. I think that it would be more fun to be in middle school and go to other classes.

Sixth graders should be in middle school because it has interscholastic sports and we are more mature. Also most of the other schools have sixth grade in middle school.

Should Sixth Grade Move to the Middle School?
by Katie

Should they move to the Middle School? I have a lot of reasons why we should, but I'll just tell you these three-- If they move into the Middle School they would be more organized. They would also learn to choose their own subject. Also they would learn to be around different teachers and classmates.

Like I said-- they would be more organized. Well, they would be organized! And if they're organized they get their stuff in more quicker and neater. If they got their work in on time they would get more free time to do exercise and stay in shape. Plus keeping organized will help them in the "real world."

Remember when I said-- they choose their own subjects. They don't choose all of their own subjects, but the ones they do choose would be more interesting to them because they chose the subjects. And if it's interesting to them they would want to pay more attention to what they're learning. If they want to acutally learn the subject that means that they'll want to come to school.

Another thing-- they would get to have different classmates and different teachers. This would help by letting them be more talkative with people. And when they're talkative they make more friends, so they will want to come to school. Plus when they're used to having different teachers in the "real world" they would get used to having different bosses, maybe.

So like I said-- they would be more organized to help them with their work. They would choose their own subject so they would be more interested in school. Also they would be used to having different people around them. So as you can see I have pointed out some of my strong reasons for why sixth granders should move over to the Middle School. What are yours?

Should 6th Graders Go to the Middle School?
by Ian

I think that 6th graders shouldn't go to the middle school because of all the different teachers, the lack of recess, and aggressive older kids.

I don't think students should have so many different teachers because kids have to adjust to each teacher and because all teachers give homework, and some give a lot, and with all that homework some 6th graders would be overwhelmed.

I think students should have recess and they don't have recess in middle school. I think recess is important because it makes students happy, lets them talk to their friends, and lets them get exercise.

Finally, I think that aggressive older students would pick on us. They will have had more chances to develop their muscles, and they might decide to use them on us 6th graders.

I don't think 6th graders should be in middle school because of the reasons I listed above, because of all the teachers, about having recess, and about the older kids picking on us. Don't you agree?

Middle School or Not
by Christina

I am going to tell you why I think sixth grade should be in middle school. Like we wouldn't be treated like babies, we wouldn't have the same teacher all day long, and we will learn how to take way more responsibility.

In elementary school sixth graders get treated like babies. We have the same rules as the fourth graders maybe even the first graders. Us sixth graders don't like being in elementary when in other states like Washington the sixth grade is in Mid-school.

Second of all we wouldn't have the same teacher all day long. It gets kind of boring when you here the same person talking as a teacher five days a week.

Last but not least we would have to take a lot more responsibility. We will have to be really organized and make it to all our classes. Plus we will have to take time out of playing to study and do all our homework.

Now, I have told you why I think sixth grade should be in Mid-school. I've told you about how we don't like being in elementary, how we wouldn't have to have the same teacher all day, and how we would have to take more responsibility. Don't you agree?

Should 6th Grade Be in the Middle School?
by Shawn

I do not think that sixth grade should be in the middle school. There are bigger kids that would push us around. In my opinion, sixth grade students need recess time. Moving from class to class and teacher to teacher might confuse them.

The first reason I think sixth grade should not be in the middle school is the older kids might push us around and hurt us. For example, in fourth grade I saw some sixth graders pushing some fourth graders in my class. You could be scared to go to school if a kid threatened you.

I also think sixth grade needs recess because they need to burn off energy. Like today in school I saw a lot of students that got restless in class and got in trouble. In my opinion I think kids need time to unwind from some of their work and have fun. Students need to burn off evergy, talk, and make or rebuild friendship.

My final reason is tudents in sixth grade should have one teacher. I think it would be confusing to go to different classrooms. The students would need to be more organized because they would have several classes to go to. The students would have to use their lockers for keeping all their books in one place, instead of their desks.

I told you some reasons why students should not be in the mdiddle school. The older kids might push around the younger kids and scare them. Sixth grade students need recess to burn energy and talk to their friends. Students might find going from class to class confusing. As you can see, sixth graders do not belong in the middle school.

Sixth Grade Should Go to Middle School
by Kayla

I think 6th graders are treated like babies in Elementary. I think 6th graders should be in the 6th grade. I have three reasons why 6th grade should be in middle school. First we are old enough, second reason is having different teachers, and better classrooms.

First, we are old enough to have the right to be in the middle school. Sixth graders are organized, reasonable, and old enough.

Second, sixth graders need different teachers to teach as how to do different teachers in college. Having different teachers is good because you might not like one of the teachrs you have and you won't have them every single day every single minute, hour, or seconds.

The last but not least is the classrooms. They are expressly designed for each subject, example art room would have paint, paint brushes, and paper.

I think that we should be in middle school. I gave you three good clear reasons we are old enough, different teachers, and the classrooms. I hope you agree with me.

Should Sixth Graders Be at the Middle School?
by Samantha

Yes, sixth grade should be at the Middle School. I mean we're mature, we can turn our work in on time, and we like the fact that you enable us to pick our classes.

Yes, we should be in the Middle School. Sixth graders are mature enough to get to classes on time. We can work quietly, neatly, and efficiently.

We can finish our work and turn it in on time. By having a planner like we do now, it helps us organize our assignments. Folders also help. We can put papers from different subjects in different folders.

I like that at the Middle School we can choose our own subjects. By enabling us to choose the classes we're in, we would be more interested in our studies and by being more interested, we would show more effort in the work.

Yes, sixth grade should be at the Middle School. Sixth graders are mature, we can finish our work, and we like the fact that they enable us to choose our classes.
